About our law firm :.

When we established the Mina Diksies law firm, we decided to take the words of Robert F. Kennedy (American Attorney General, Senator) to heart.

"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope."

We aim to use our legal skill and resources for the benefit of our clients and the community. It is not sufficient that our actions simply meet legal criteria, but they must also abide by moral ones as well.

At the offices of Mina Diksies, we ask ourselves, not how many billable hours can be had from this case, but how much help we can bring? Can we make a difference in our clients’ lives?

Mina Diksies…In His Own Words

About our Law FirmYou might wonder, "Why open up your own firm, when you could have worked for
a big firm? Couldn’t you fight for people there?" Not really. Most large firms these days care about billable hours and nothing but billable hours.

They're just machines with human cogs. I wanted to do it my way, what I believe is the right way.
This belief comes directly from my family, their example and the experiences that brought me to study law.

If you haven’t guessed from my name, Mina Diksies, I am a first generation immigrant. My family immigrated when I was two and half years old. Our history illustrates that the American dream is not a myth but rather alive and well. Despite both my parents being college educated, my dad (who had two masters degrees) worked as a grocery store clerk and my mother as a line worker in a factory that made semiconductors.

Eventually both of them secured positions at a major financial company. My dad also sat for and passed the grueling CPA exam and now works for himself.

Because I grew up in the States, I always found myself explaining things to my parents due to their language limitations. In a way, that's when I really started out playing the role of an advocate. It didn't take long for me to realize that the potential for even smart people like my parents to get ripped off was high.

I grew up in a very tight knit ethnic community where everyone knows everyone. This community includes people from both ends of the wealth spectrum, those who've been in the States for decades and were well off and those who were just getting started in their pursuit of the American Dream.

This community is relatively young. The first immigrants came over in the late 60s. As you can imagine language was a daily challenge. There never really were any attorneys that spoke their language or understood the inner workings of the culture. It took a generation to develop members of the community who had a strong enough mastery of English to become lawyers. I am one of the first few attorneys within the community in this area.

You'd be surprised how scary this country can be if you don't have at least a working knowledge of English. Even something like a routine traffic stop can really be a traumatic experience.

The law can be a frightening realm even if you can trace your lineage back to the Mayflower. The adversarial nature of courts is very intimidating to most people. Because of that, the part I find most rewarding is the advocacy aspect. The term counselor is really a great word for an attorney who does his job faithfully.

My clients, otherwise very capable, even super-capable people, often come into my office confused, intimidated, nervous and worried. I like that I am able to say,

“Let me carry that burden for you. Let me be your voice. Let me fight your battles for you. Stand behind me and I'll take the punches for you. And be assured that I’ll be throwing many of my own.”

I know how hard people work, and how easily even smart, empowered people can be made to feel helpless and small. It’s a terrible feeling, and I don’t want any of my clients to go through it. That’s why I opened the Mina Diksies law firm.
